In many instances, education systems and teachers' qualifications share strong similarities with one of the five dominant system models (French, British, Soviet, Spanish, and American). This session provides an overview of the key components in teacher education programs around the world and highlights some of the significant changes of the last three decades. Keeping in mind that successful completion of a teacher education program may not be the only pathway to teach in an elementary or secondary school, this session outlines additional requirements for certification in sample jurisdictions.
